The Professional Support Lawyer role was first introduced in the 1990s by English law firms. Over the years the role of PSLs evolved to providing legal updates, conducting research and giving internal training. The reason of their existence was, and still is, to execute the non-fee earning activities that are withholding fee-earners in the firm to do billable work.
